21 May Tipi Wedding & Event Floor Plans with round tables
Round tables have been the traditional choice for weddings for certainly as long as I can remember. Round tables offer different capacities for seating guests, more space for glassware, and just have a different feel to long tables, and are arguably more traditional. This article is about the tipi floor plans for weddings and events using round tables, and the technicalities, pros and cons of using round tables.
First of all, we use 5ft 6 diameter round tables to seat up to 10 guests. You can fit a maximum of 6 tables in one tipi, seating up to 60 guests.
For weddings and events of 60 day guests, we recommend 2 tipis so you have a second tipi for reception drinks, mingling and dancing.
For weddings and events of up to 120 day guests, we recommend 3 tipis. These can be in a linear or triangular formation, although it’s worth noting that the floor area is slightly larger when they are arranged in a triangle (due to how they connect). In each of the 3 tipi floor plans below, the tipis are in a triangular configuration but we can set them up in a linear formation if you would prefer.
For weddings and events of up to 150 day guests, 4 tipis would provide a comfortable space. 2 & a half of your tipis would be used for dining, leaving 1 & a half for socialising and dancing.
If there will be 180 people at the wedding, we recommend a minimum of 4 tipis but advise for 5 tipis. 3 tipis would be taken up by tables and seating and one tipi has a standing capacity of roughly 100 people, not considering space taken up by any indoor furnishings.
THE PROS AND CONS OF USING ROUND TABLES
- Traditional way to seat guests at weddings
- Guests can easily see each person seated at their table
- More space on the table for formal place settings and glassware
- More space on the table for shared food / platters
- More space on the table for table decorations
- Seating capacity in the tipis is reduced
- Tables take up more space and are less versatile
- More difficult to have conversations with other guests seated further away – seating plans will be more important.
- Require table cloths
- Less easy to move to create more space for the evening guests / entertainment.
TIPI FLOOR PLAN FOR 60 DAY GUESTS
2 tipis are usually recommended for events with up to 120 people, so with this layout you could accommodate 60 day guests + 60 evening guests. If you wanted to, it would be possible to add another couple of tables into the 2nd tipi to create a space for 80 day guests. If you would like to do this, we would recommend using our All-Weather Entrance as a side extension to create more floor space, and you may also consider moving these additional tables to the side when the evening entertainment begins.
TIPI FLOOR PLAN FOR 100 DAY GUESTS
For events with 100 guests, we recommend 3 tipis as the best part of 2 tipis will be taken up by tables and chairs. If you’d like space between tables to be more spacious, consider having 5 tables to a tipi. If you are planning to invite a lot of evening guests, consider the 2nd layout shown where there is a larger single area for guest to stand. The area where the tipis connect is ideal for a cake and guestbook table.
TIPI FLOOR PLAN FOR 120 DAY GUESTS
As we mentioned above, you gain additional floor space by connecting the tipis in a triangle like this.
We would recommend 180 guests in total for 3 tipi weddings and events so this space would be suitable for 120 day guests + 60 evening guests.
4 TIPIS FOR UP TO 180 DAY GUESTS
These layouts show 4 tipis with seating for up to 180 people, which is the maximum you could seat in this space. For 150 guests, you would find 4 tipis to be a comfortable space. If your budget allows, I would recommend 5 tipis for seating more than 150 people, particularly if you are inviting additional evening guests, as the standing capacity in one tipi is 100 people (not taking into account furnishings).
If you are worried about how much space you need, please get in touch with us and we’ll be happy to talk it through with you. Remember that your guests will naturally spread out, some will remain seated, some will go outside, others will mingle at the tables.
We would recommend 4 tipis as a suitable space for up to 200 guests in total.
OPTIONS TO CREATE MORE SPACE:
Ask a few of your guests before the wedding to be responsible for moving a few tables to the side when the evening entertainment begins. As the tipi canvas slopes upwards towards the centre, you won’t lose any usable space by popping the tables to the side. Just remember not to take away tables where your elderly guests are sitting!
Another option is to use our All Weather Entrance Package to create more space. This is a PVC window panel and zip door way, with optional wooden doors. It can be used for entrances or side extensions, letting in natural light and giving you 30% more usable floor space in 1 tipi.
5 TIPIS FOR UP TO 180 DAY GUESTS
Adding a 5th tipi to your 180 day guest event will ensure you and your guests will have plenty of space and alleviate any concerns about moving tables. We are working on images currently and will be sharing these as soon as possible.
